The interior of the Connor Residence is designed as a contemplative and warm space akin to a nest. Our client, a producer in the film industry, inspired the volumes, shapes and composition of the joinery pieces – each mimicking the approximate proportions and horizontal nature of film. The joinery pieces are active occupants of the dwelling – and as such, they are all imbued with their own personalities, their shapes inviting anthropocentric narratives. Compositions in a burst of imagination can become faces, operable panels similar to mouths and long horizontal elements mimicking arms and wings. Like the activity of cloud watching whilst sprawled out on the lawn, these simple analogies make the inhabitants feel at ease, comforted and safe.
